A.WWTP (WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT)

Disposal of wastewater from industrial plants is a difficult and expensive problem. Most oil, chemical and petrochemical refineries have facilities in place to treat their wastewater so that the pollutant concentrations in the treated wastewater comply with local and/or national regulations regarding discharge of wastewater into community treatment plants or into rivers, lakes, or oceans.

Artificial wetlands are being used increasingly because they provide high-quality and productive on-site treatment. Other industrial processes that generate large amounts of wastewater such as paper and pulp production have created environmental concerns, leading to the development of processes to recycle used water within the mill before it has to be cleaned and disposed of.

Industrial wastewater treatment plants are required where municipal wastewater treatment plants are not available or cannot adequately treat certain industrial wastewater. Industrial wastewater plants can reduce raw water costs by converting selected wastewater into reclaimed water that is used for various purposes.

Industrial wastewater treatment plants can reduce the cost of treating wastewater collected by municipal sewage treatment plants by pre-treating wastewater to reduce pollutant concentrations measured to determine user costs.
